The Sacrament of Confirmation deepens the spiritual life begun in Baptism that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world. The Holy Spirit bestows seven gifts to assist us in our mission and witness. Those who are baptized as infants are usually confirmed when they are old enough to understand the meaning of discipleship and be committed to the responsibilities of the sacrament. For those baptized later in life, Confirmation follows immediately after Baptism. The sacrament is conferred by the Bishop or his delegate, through the laying on of hands, the anointing with Sacred Chrism on the forehead, and the words, “Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.”   Diocese of Charleston Confirmation Guidelines

Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation constitute the sacraments of Christian initiation, "… whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. "89 For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, (the baptized) are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed." (CCC, #1285)

BIG CHANGES!

• SJN Parishioners who will be in 6th and 7th grade (or above) in the 2024-2025 school year will be eligible to prepare for and receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. 
• Those who would like to participate in Confirmation preparation must have completed a year of Faith Formation or Catholic School.
• Confirmation Candidates will attend a series of Confirmation classes that will be held on Sundays. The candidate’s sponsor or a parent
  will be asked to attend with them.
